About.

Xan Tyler’s most recent offering is also her debut solo album. Released on Last Night From Glasgow on 24th May 2024, Holding Up Half The Sky reached No.4 in the Official Scottish Albums Chart and No.10 in the Official UK Vinyl Chart the following week. With plays on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Scotland and Absolute Radio and with favourable reviews in music press and news outlets alike, Holding Up Half The Sky’s reception exceeded Xan’s expectations from the start.

To celebrate the release Xan performed songs from the album to a sold out crowd at Glasgow’s Panopticon music hall. Each song from the album was also represented by a piece of art. The thirteen celebrated artists displayed their work in a pop-up exhibition at the album launch event curated by Xan. The evening was a huge success and received glowing reviews.

Although this is Xan’s debut solo it is not her first album. In 2021 Xan collaborated with Dub Reggae legend Mad Professor. Described as ‘possibly the best album this year’ by Boogaloo Radio, Clarion Call (ARIWA) was also described as ‘extraordinary’ by Uncut Magazine. This was not the pair’s first collaboration as they first worked together as Mission  Control (POPTONES) in 2000. This project featured a guest vocal by the late great Lee Scratch Perry. In 2020 Xan came together with Shimmy Disc founder Kramer as Let It Come Down (SHIMMY DISC / JOYFUL NOISE). The resulting album Songs We Sang In Our Dreams was described as ‘thoughtful and cavernous-sounding’ by Pitchfork Magazine. 2016 saw Xan collaborate with session musician David Liddell under the name Glasshouse. They released one EP titled We Are The Light And The Dark.

Since her beginnings as a teenage backing singer for South London’s risqué cult band Death Bang Party Xan has had an eclectic musical journey. Her big break was with Creation Records when she was signed to front electro pop duo Technique, produced by heavyweights Stephen Hague (New Order) and Owen Morris (Oasis). After touring the world with Creation she was signed to legendary dance label Positiva where Xan paired up with German electronic titans Timo Maas and Martin Buttrich for Orinoko.

Xan’s powerful and evocative songwriting is no more apparent than in her last two solo EPs, ‘Into the Blue’ and ‘Golden Hues’. These are available in her store along with her other work.
